MARK JACKSON ELECTED NEW BALTIC EXCHANGE CHAIRMAN
The Board of Directors of the Baltic Exchange has elected Mark Jackson of AM Nomikos to serve as its Chairman, and Paul Over to serve as Vice-Chairman. They will take office following the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 8 July 2009, when the present Chairman Michael Drayton steps down.
Commenting on his election, Mark Jackson said:
“The Baltic Exchange helps ensure the functioning of the global bulk freight markets through the production of independent freight market information, implementation of its code of conduct and practical advice to members. The world economy and shipping markets face difficult times and the Baltic Exchange will continue to lead industry wide efforts to meet these challenges.”
He added:
“I’m delighted that I will be ably assisted in this role by Paul Over who is a well known and respected shipping industry figure.”
Mark Jackson is a director of AM Nomikos & Son (UK) Ltd and the Chief Commercial Officer for the Athens based AM Nomikos group. Mark started his shipping career in 1980 in Sydney, Australia. After 18 years working as a shipbroker in Sydney, Hong Kong, New York and London, he joined A.M. Nomikos (UK) in 1998. Mark Jackson joined the Baltic Board in 2004 and was subsequently appointed Chairman of the FFA Committee (FIFC) in 2005. The FIFC (Freight Indices and Futures Committee) is responsible for the overseeing and production of the Baltic Exchange indices.
Paul Over joined Eggar Forrester in 1976 as a trainee shipbroker and attended the Baltic as a representative. In 1978 he moved to Howe Robinson, transferring to the ship owning section of Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong in 1980. In 1984 he joined Continental Grain in Hong Kong before the formation of Pacific Basin in 1987. He stepped down from the board of Pacific Basin in March 2007, retaining a role of senior advisor which expired on 6 March 2009 thus ending his association with the company. He is a director and a shareholder of Asian Maritime Pacific Ltd of Hong Kong. He is also holds an interest in the Epic Shipping Ltd and Nextship Ltd. 18 years of his shipping career have been spent in the Far East, the majority of which was in Hong Kong where he maintains a residence. Paul Over joined the Baltic Board in 2006.
